Here is how to get it to clean up.

Have the user log off. Remove his current profile from the workstation. Go to the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. Find the problem users SID key. Remove it from ProfileList. After you have done that, ask user to log back in again. The problem should be fixed.
